SEAI’s New and Increased Home Energy Grants

In February 2026, the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) unveiled significantly enhanced grant supports designed to help homeowners make energy upgrades more affordable, accessible, and effective. These changes form part of the National Residential Retrofit Plan, which aims to cut energy costs, reduce carbon emissions and improve the comfort of Irish homes.

SEAI’s updated grant packages now offer more financial support, wider eligibility, and new options, making it easier for many homeowners to begin an energy upgrade journey.

What’s Changed in the SEAI Home Energy Grants?

SEAI has introduced enhanced grant amounts and expanded eligibility under its Home Energy Grants programme. The changes are designed to accelerate residential retrofits in line with Ireland’s climate targets and the National Residential Retrofit Plan.

Key updates include:

  • Increased grant amounts for insulation and heat pumps
  • A new standalone grant for windows and doors
  • Higher attic insulation grants for first-time buyers
  • Expanded supports for households on qualifying welfare payments
  • Greater flexibility for repeat insulation measures

Below is a breakdown of the key measures, their grant values, and why they matter strategically.

Attic Insulation Grant

Attic insulation remains one of the most cost-effective energy upgrades, addressing the roof heat loss that accounts for a significant portion of total energy loss.

SEAI provides fixed grant amounts based on property type:

  • Detached house: €2,000
  • Semi-detached or end-of-terrace: €1,500
  • Mid-terrace: €1,400
  • Apartment: €1,100

From 2 March 2026, First-Time Buyers can avail of a higher fixed grant of up to €2,500 for attic insulation.

A higher fixed-amount grant is also being introduced for homeowners on qualifying welfare payments, further supporting households most impacted by energy costs.

Heat Pump Systems Grant

The SEAI Heat Pump System grant has been expanded and is now structured as a bundle of three separate grants, offering a total support of up to €12,500, depending on the dwelling type.

The total grant amount is made up of:

  • Up to €6,500 for the Heat Pump System installation
  • Up to €2,000 for required upgrades to central heating components (such as new radiators or underfloor heating)
  • A €4,000 Renewable Heat Bonus, available to homeowners replacing an existing oil or gas boiler, solid fuel heating system, or electric storage heating system with a heat pump

If you already have a grant application in progress, you will need to demonstrate eligibility for each element of the bundle.

To qualify, a Technical Assessment (€200 grant support available) is required for homes built before 2007. This assessment must be completed before applying for the Heat Pump System grant, and ensures the property is suitable for heat pump installation.

Wall Insulation Grants

Wall insulation addresses significant heat loss in older homes and can greatly improve comfort and energy efficiency.

New: Windows & Doors Grant

Previously only available within deep retrofit programmes, as of 2 March 2026, SEAI introduced a standalone Windows and Doors Grant under the Individual Energy Upgrade pathway. This allows homeowners to upgrade to energy-efficient windows and external doors without committing to a full home retrofit.

Grant support is based on property type:

Windows (up to a maximum amount per home):

  • Detached house: up to €4,000
  • Semi-detached or end-of-terrace: up to €3,000
  • Mid-terrace: up to €1,800
  • Apartment: up to €1,500

External doors:

  • €800 per door (maximum of 2 doors)

To qualify, homes must meet certain insulation standards or fabric requirements to ensure the upgrade delivers meaningful energy performance improvements.
